Canoes, kayaks and row boats, oh my! They’ll all be on display next month in Marine on St. Croix.
The second annual Paddle Crafts Boat show will be 5-8 p.m. July 12 in Burris Park, 240 Judd St.
More than 50 boats will be on display, including “historic paddle craft from storied manufacturers, locally built canoes and kayaks and the big boats from Wilderness Inquiry,” said Kevin Nyenhuis, one of the event’s organizers.
More than 150 people attended last year’s event.
“We were thrilled with the organic success of the event last year and wanted to keep that enthusiasm going,” said Nyenhuis, who also is the mayor of Marine.
Added co-organizer Bill Simpson: “People and boats I hadn’t seen in years showed up. We’re sure there will be some surprises this year, too.”
The event, which is free and open to the public, will include a paddle-making demonstration, music and a spoken-word program. Attendees can take part in “portaging” lessons with Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness and learn about watershed stewardship.
Attendees are invited to bring a picnic dinner; a grill will be provided.
