Washington County residents are being asked to comment on a proposed yard-waste transfer site in the central portion of the county.
The proposed site is on the north side of 40th Street, just east of the Washington County Fairgrounds in Baytown Township.
It would offer county residents a central location for dropping off grass clippings, leaves, garden waste, brush, tree debris and food scraps, officials say. The county already operates a yard waste site in Hugo.
“The closure of public and private yard waste sites has created gaps in yard waste services throughout the county,” said Mandy Leonard, project manager. “Engagement with local municipalities has indicated a need for the county to provide yard waste transfer facilities to address gaps in service.”
Based on the schedule of the county’s northern site, the central site likely would be open four days a week from April through November and only on Saturdays the rest of the year.
