Two more candidates the Miami Dolphins are interviewing for their open defensive coordinator position have come to light Wednesday.

Former Denver Broncos coach and longtime NFL defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and New Orleans Saints secondary coach/co-defensive coordinator Kris Richard are being interviewed, according to a league source.

The third and fourth names getting interviewed surfaced Wednesday after it became known earlier in the week Seattle Seahawks associate head coach/defensive assistant Sean Desai and Dolphins linebackers coach Anthony Campanile were getting interviews.

Fangio and Desai were to interview Wednesday for the job, ESPN and NFL Network reports said.

Fangio, who turns 65 in August, was believed to be a name at the top of the list for Miami coach Mike McDaniel when he was first hired in early February 2022, but eventually Josh Boyer was retained. Boyer was fired as defensive coordinator last week, opening up the vacancy.

Fangio, who was head coach of the Denver Broncos from 2019 to 2021, instead became a defensive consultant for the Philadelphia Eagles this season, with his team competing in the NFC Championship Game this Sunday.

Fangio has a lengthy resume as an NFL defensive coordinator: Chicago Bears from 2015 to 2018, San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014 (a stretch that included deep playoff runs and even a Super Bowl appearance leading some great defenses), Houston Texans for their first four seasons in franchise history from 2002 to 2005, the Indianapolis Colts from 1999 to 2001 and the Carolina Panthers from their inaugural season in 1995 through 1998.

The veteran coach could provide an experienced voice for McDaniel, who will be a second-year head coach in 2023, and Fangio could be trusted with the keys to the defense.

Before reaching the coordinator ranks, he was a New Orleans Saints linebackers coach from 1986 through 1994. He also had stints as a defensive assistant for tough Baltimore Ravens defenses from 2006 to 2009 before coordinating the Stanford University defense in 2010 and following Jim Harbaugh to the 49ers.

Fangio also coached now-Dolphins edge defender Bradley Chubb during his time with the Broncos.

Richard was one of the candidates interviewed for the Dolphins’ head coach job two coaches ago — back when Brian Flores was hired in 2019.

He was defensive coordinator of the Seahawks from 2015 to 2017. When he was up for the Dolphins job, he was Dallas Cowboys defensive backs coach and passing-game coordinator.

Richard then was defensive backs coach of the Saints in 2021 and was promoted to co-defensive coordinator this past season as he has worked his way back to coordinator ranks.

Before his first stint as DC, he coached the Seahawks secondary for five years as Seattle’s “Legion of Boom” was blossoming.

    Hill a POY finalist

Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is a finalist for the NFL’s Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year, the NFL announced Wednesday.

Others are Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

Hill finished the 2022 season with Dolphins franchise records of 119 receptions and 1,710 receiving yards — both second in the NFL behind Jefferson.

The winner, along with other award winners for the season, will be announced at the NFL Honors award show on Feb. 9 at 9 p.m.
