A severe thunderstorm is passing through the metro around noon today, according to the Twin Cities office of the National Weather Service.
A severe thunderstorm watch that includes the metro is in effect until 2 p.m. Saturday
The storm is expected to hit the central metro by noon, and the east metro area about 30 minutes later. The weather service has already gotten reports of 70 mph winds and one- to two-inch hail from the storm. Lightning is also expected, even in non-severe thunderstorm conditions.
A potential second storm is currently under watch today. The weather service says a second storm is still very conditional on the first storm, and a direct hit by the first storm makes the second storm more unlikely. There is still no estimated time of arrival for the second storm.
The first storm is expected to last through 2 p.m. Saturday. The weather service recommends people be weather aware, especially when outside.
